1. Cats don’t meow to each other to communicate: If you have two cats (just like me) you could be wondering what they are really saying to each other if you think that they meow to communicate you are wrong cats usually perform body language towards each other to communicate and to show affection and sometimes hate towards one another. Cats only meow towards humans for food and affection. So, whenever you can really meow just know that they want something from you.  

2. Purring: Whenever a cat purrs you usually might tell yourself, “Oh wow how cute they are so happy”. But a cat’s tiny engine turning on (purring) does not always mean that they are happy or showing affection. Sometimes whenever a cat is injured, sick, or scared they purr to calm themselves down. This is a good tip especially if you take your cat(s) on road trips so when they start purring that usually means that they are scared or the sounds out on the loud highway. 

3. Love bits: Whenever your cat(s) bit you it does not always mean that they are mad at you. Sometimes depending on the situation of whether they are happy or not means that the cat could be giving you a love bit which a gentle bit that a cat(s) gives to show affection towards you.  (Pro tip whenever a cat is going to give you a love bit especially if you are certain don’t move your hand away since they will try to grab your hand and possibly scratch it to properly give you the love bit. 

4. Grooming: Whenever a cat grooms something or someone it is when they lick and bit another cat’s hair or skin to remove objects and clean the other cat usually where the other cat cannot clean themselves. But this is also a sign of affection to show that they care about the other cats. But the thing is that this affection feeling that comes from cats grooming each other also goes towards humans. If a cat bit and licks your hair they most likely want affection and attention from you. 

5. Different types of meows and howls: Whenever your cat meows you can tell a difference in volume and aggression in their meow. Cats change their volume and aggression of their meow to show different things, for example if your cat meows loudly and is aggressive (like a howl) it could mean they feel endangered from something or they are hurt. But if they meow softly like a kitten, would they want attention or food, you can just tell by the volume of their meows. (My cat usually meows softly whenever he wants snacks or pets. 

6. Whenever cats want food from you, most people think that they would just meow. But in reality, most of the time cats have their own sense of communication for their owner to give them food. For example, my cats meow lightly twice whenever asking for food. Other cats rub themselves against their owner(s) legs whenever they want food.

7. Why do cats not play as they get older: Whenever you think that you want to play with your cat(s), they are usually just lie around sleeping or doing nothing. (In my case my cats stare at me no even caring about the toy that is right in front of them.) The thing is that the older your cat gets the less they want to play sense whenever they are kittens, they have more hormone production that allows them to feel excited and playful more often and for longer, rather than an older cat. After some time (around 1/.5 to 2 years old cats produce much less of these (playful) hormones and so they have a less urge to feel excited or play with toys. A good tip to make your cat more playful (especially if they are alone), is to get them a play buddy (AKA a younger cat). This allows for the older cat to have someone to play with and since the cat is younger than your older cat, they have a more urge to play and that usually means playing with your older cat. But be warned it usually takes around 1-5 months for cats to get used to each other so don’t think that they will become best friends right away or in some cases never.
